Super Mario Cake? Even Mickey gives a Thumbs Up!!
I’m a little late with this, but we had a LOT of images from Deb & Brent’s wedding to go through, and so many unique details to share.
The day started at the salon with the girls. Hair & makeup looked amazing.
From there it was off to the beautiful Paletta Mansion on the Lakeshore in Burlington. Deb’s dress was stunning.
Deb used peacock feathers in her hair, and the floral arrangements, to compliment the jewel tones of her color theme.
Ready for her walk down the aisle, Deb absolutely glowed.
It was a beautiful October day, perfect for the outdoor ceremony on the terrace.
The grounds at Paletta gave a great variety of backgrounds for our formals.
And yes – they really did have a Super Mario Brothers cake……made by their very talented friend, and complete with cotton candy clouds. By far the most unique cake we’ve every seen.
And Mickey Mouse gave the whole day a big thumbs up.
Family
What another glorious weekend. Kevin and I spent Saturday afternoon with Kirsten & Jeremy, and their adorable daughter Jordyn. We braved the wind and spent some time a Paletta Estates on Burlington’s waterfront, then did a few more formal shots back at our studio at Dundas & Appleby. Kirsten & Jeremy were looking for images that they can use for their Christmas cards this year. If you want pictures for Christmas please contact us. Time is running out.
Here are some of my favorites
Family Photo’s in Muskoka
Shhh…..Mother Nature hasn’t figured out that it’s November yet!! Another beautiful fall weekend, and this time I had the pleasure of spending a day with Diane, Bob, Renee and Riley at their cottage in Muskoka. I met Diane & Bob last fall when I was shooting Melissa & Bill’s wedding. What a great couple!
Ravit & Ryan – Mono Cliff Park
What a treat to be able to do a mid week engagement shoot with a really great couple. Ravit & Ryan are getting married next August at The Manor in Kettleby. We met at Mono Cliff Park, and set off on a 3 hour hike. It was a cool, overcast day – perfect for warm comfy sweaters, knitted scarfs and boots. Koodos to Ravit for doing the entire hike in heels!!
For the love of birds…..
The longer I do this, the harder it is to find new and interesting places to shoot. Of course, I have many beautiful spots that I love to share with my clients, but it’s even more fun when they share their favorite spots with me.
Last weekend, Breanne & Eric suggested we shoot their second engagement session at Cherry Hill Gate – a spot that Bree and her mom spent alot of time exploring during her childhood. Mom came along to enjoy the beautiful weather, and brought along a supply of bird seed that was much appreciated by the mass of chickadees and a few red winged black birds.
Thanks guys, for introducing me to such a great spot. I’m sure I’ll be back there to visit the chickadees again soon!
Thanksgiving in Banff
Fall is definitely one of my favorite times of year, and one of the most beautiful times for photography. Kevin and I took advantage of a rare weekend off, and headed west to the mountains of Banff Alberta. There are few places in the world that showcase the nature’s grandeur the way the Rockies do. It truly is stunning.
Sarah’s Maternity Shoot
Last weekend my photography student Heather and I worked together to do some fun belly shots for Heather’s friend Sarah. We also had a chance to play with our new studio backdrop.
Sarah’s daughter is anxious to be a big sister.
I love the timelessness and drama of the black & whites for maternity.
Maternity shots are not just about the mommy to be. It’s an exciting time for the father to be as well. Glad Colin was able to join us for the shoot.
Baby Emma is expected to arrive later this month. Good luck & best wishes to Sarah, Colin and big sister Madison.

If you are interested in doing a maternity session – please give us a call.
A very special engagement in Niagara Falls
When we started shooting weddings 4 years ago, Kevin and I made a conscious decision to limit ourselves to no more than 10-12 weddings a year. For both of us it is important to really get to know the couple so that we can capture not only a factual account of their big day, but also the emotion and personalities. You just can’t do that when you are shooting a different wedding every week, and sometimes 2-3 weddings in a single weekend. After our own wedding we realized just how important it is to have great images that let you relive the emotions of the day, and we are honored every time we are entrusted by a client to capture their day.
Shooting the engagement session is always fun, but for us it’s an important step in building confidence and comfort with our clients – some of whom we’ve only spoken with briefly before the shoot. Yesterday was a little different, as Kevin and I headed to Niagara Falls with my beautiful cousin RikkiLynn, and her handsome fiance Billy. Getting to know them was hardly necessary since I’ve known RikkiLynn since she was a baby, and had the pleasure of watching her grow into a stunning lady. Of course, she has impeccable taste – especially when it comes to finding the handsome guy she’s going to spend her life with! We had a blast hanging out, getting a little cheesy on Clifton Hill, then heading to Niagara on the Lake for some more evening shots.
Here’s a quick video sneak peak.
New Show – New Exhibit – Huge Success!!
On Sunday Kevin and I, along with our favorite volunteer Glenda, hung out at the Ancaster Wedding Show. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon & evening!! We met lots of great future brides, grooms, and their entourages. We also got to network with a great group of vendors in a show that was fun, and really well organized.
The most exciting thing for us was the unveiling of our new exhibit, designed specifically for us by Erwin Nevado. We were not easy clients, as I’m sure Erwin can attest to. We insisted that the exhibit be modular – so that it could fit an 8×8 space that we typically have in Burlington, a 10×10 space that we were suppose to have at the Ancaster show, as well as expanding or morphing to fit other spaces we may find ourselves exhibiting. It must have sufficient shelf space to show off our fabulous Album Epoca sample covers, the beautiful albums we always have for clients to browse through, and a few canvases or framed prints. It must also support a large flat screen TV so that we can run our music video slide shows. Oh yeah – and just 1 more thing – it all has to fit in Kevin’s Altima!! RIGHT!
Take a look:
The original drawings showed the exhibit as 3 peices, in a straight line (or staggered) to form the back of the booth. We found ourselves in the enviable position of being in a corner with a double booth for this show. Thanks to Erwin’s flexible design we were able to position the 3 peices to create a rounded corner, and maximize the space! The best part is that we were able to assemble the entire exhibit in 45 minutes, and it was disassembled and back in the Altima in 30 minutes! Really nice after an 8 hour show.
One of the best parts of the exhibit are the 2 “lecturn” type stands that we can place at the front of the exhibit. These allow us to put an album front and centre – where potential clients are able to flip through comfortably. A shelf below allows for a second book – we put our custom engagement guest book here. Kevin loved being able to show multiple books without having to juggle them.
As you can see – even with a group of people standing at the front of the booth chatting with Kevin, there was still plenty visibility and space to move around.
The flash & umbrella? Oh yeah – since we had a double booth, we decided to set up some lights and do a portrait contest. You can see the results – and vote for your favorites on our facebook page!
Patricia & Chris – Engagement Session #2
On Sunday evening Kevin and I spent some time hanging out at Coronation Park with Patricia & Chris. To add some variety to the pictures in their guest book they choose to do a spring and a summer engagement session. Another great way to add variety is with wardrobe changes. Chris wanted to have some relaxed fun shots while Patricia wanted a more formal romantic feel. I think their wardrobe choices on Sunday accomplished both goals.
One of the really nice things about working with Patricia and Chris is that they make lots of suggestions, which really makes their photos reflect their personalities. Of course the fact that they are both naturals in front of the camera helps too. Can’t wait to shoot their wedding at Carmen’s in November.
